My Vermont Tour 2010 (Feb 28-March 7 - Caution longwinded but w/cool pics!)

5 hours 46 min ago
So, I usually take my week skiing at Alta, but this year due to a few things, I was in Vermont. I left on the 27th and drove straight to Cuzzins and Mt. Snow, where my buddies were waiting for me. One lives up there full time and 2 others that I've known for years were there. My one buddy has a big, deep booming voice and 15 years ago would do a Doors Medley with Bruce Jacques, the Cuzzins' regular Sat. night entertainment. So, at one point, (after I downed a number of liquids) I jumped up on...

It's 10:30AM this Saturday in NH...

(had to steal that title) Sunapee, Waterville, Gunstock... who will have the "least" crowded experience? (Although the crowds are probably going to be horrendous most anywhere if Sunday is going to be a rainout - things are getting pretty desparate if I am considering skiing on a Saturday!) thx

If I didn't have to work tommorrow, with how nice out it is here in Eastern CT today, I'd say that this evening has the making of the 1st really good, comfortable evening patio PDW session of 2010 :) :)

2 for 1 Lift Tickets, Yours Free for the Taking

12 hours 8 min ago
A guest checked out today and gave me a bunch of 2 for 1s for various places in the North Country. They're of the "not for resale" category, but it says nothing about giving them away. They were given to me and I'm giving them to you. Just two rules: 1. You have to pick them up here in Vermont. I'm too lazy to mail them to you. (But you don't have to be a guest at the inn, because that would be packaging or something, and I'm seriously just giving them away.) 2. Don't be greedy. Take...

Oh boy!!!!! Is it all over after the rains this weekend?!?!?(3/13-3/15)

13 hours 18 min ago
Sorry for the radio silence Alpine People. I have had the absolute BEST ski season of my life. I have seen Jay Peak twice this year(trying for a 3rd). Saw Sugarbush, Smuggs and Killington for the first time. Had an amazing blue bird carver day at Gore, an equally beautiful, but way more visceral day at Whiteface. A smattering of killer Stratton days, and a few nights shredding Jiminy Peak. As well as a few days over at Mountain Creek, just to keep the legs loose. It truly has been epic. ...

What mid- fat skis to Demo?

Tue, 03/09/2010 - 13:07
This Saturday is Demo day at my home mountain, Mount Snow. Id like to demo some skis to replace my 2005 Dynastar Legend 8000s. Im looking for something similar: a light mid-fat all mountain ski. I really like how light and quick turning the Legends are compared to my other skis, Volkl 5 stars. The Legends have been great for me in most conditions, so much so that I rarely take out the 5 stars any longer. I dont have too much time this week to research all of the different models. Any...

Stowe this weekend.

Tue, 03/09/2010 - 12:50
I booked a 3 day weekend for myself up at Stowe. I'm going to do Stowe on Friday and Sunday. Bolton on Saturday. Anyone else going to be around?

Wax new skis...end of season?

Tue, 03/09/2010 - 11:49
We have some new skis arriving any day. They should have a thin factory coat. If we're only going to ski a few times before racking them for the summer, think I should bother waxing them? I plan to do our own waxing next year, but don't presently have the stuff, so I'd get it done for $10 at the hill. Also, would be nice to not have to scrape the summer wax next season.

Intermediate-friendly glades?

Tue, 03/09/2010 - 11:23
Our family is going to be heading to New England for our bi-annual Spring Break RV/Ski week from March 27 thru April 5th. Last time, the kids (now 12 and 14) had a blast at Bretton Woods' Black Forest Glades. Where else can we go for similar blue-ish glades? (The kids can handle more challenging terrain now but probably not too much more difficult.) We will likely be coming up from DC through the Catskills and then hitting a few Vt. resorts and then over to NH and ending up at...
